WHS SchoolDays Project

I'll be launching the WHS SchoolDays Project at our tutor meetings this week. In brief, WHS SchoolDays is a series of connected blogs (a blogwork) which give our pupils a voice about things that happen in school. The blogs need to be moderated by a small team of teachers before posts appear, and so I will be asking for willing volunteers from each year team. This job will not be very onerous or time-consuming and actually will be very interesting to find out what the pupils think.

The master blog address is http://whsschooldays.blogspot.com and currently the Year 10 and Year 11 links are live. The Year 10 section includes pupil comments on Off Timetable Day and Work Experience as well pupil chat and pictures. The main aim of the Year 11 section is to collate a series of memories, stories and photographs to form an electronic yearbook. Some of these posts may also be used in the actual Year 11 paper yearbook.

Other whole school school blogs include the Pretoria Pit Journal, the Poland Trip, Sports Reports and Talking Point for debating the important youth issues of today. Pupils may post messages and comments on any of these blogs from home or school using any computer with internet access. The messages will not appear however, until they have been checked by a teacher.

I believe this to be a very exciting and innovative project, and possibly the first in this country (and probably the world) to be done in this way. I hope you do too, and will want to get involved in some way. Please get in touch soon if you do.
